Meet Dr. Matloob

Dr. Khizar Matloob joined Timmins Animal Hospital in January 2026 as the new Medical Director, bringing a strong combination of clinical expertise, academic experience, and proven leadership. He graduated in 2016 from the University of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore, Pakistan and subsequently completed an MPhil degree in Pet Animal Practices while working full-time in private practice at a high-volume, well-established veterinary hospital. His professional background also includes referral-level practice and several years as a faculty member in the Small Animal Clinical Department and Outreach Clinic at his alma mater, where he was actively involved in clinical instruction, research and mentorship.

Dr. Khizar’s interest in veterinary medicine is grounded in a lifelong hands-on experience with animals and grew up in a household which always cared for animals. As a child, he helped raise chickens, goats, budgerigars, Alexandrian parrots, and rabbits. He bred pure Persian cats for over 8 years and at one point, had 18 adult cats. He has also owned and cared for five German Shepherds. These experiences continue to inform his practical, well-rounded approach to animal care and welfare.

Dr. Khizar has a focused interest in surgery and orthopedics and practices with an emphasis on evidence-based medicine, consistency of care, and clinical accountability. He is committed to maintaining high medical standards, supporting team development, and promoting clear, effective communication to ensure excellent patient outcomes and positive client experiences.

Hailing from northern Alberta, Dr. Khizar joined Timmins Animal Hospital as a locum veterinarian in 2025, where the hospital’s collaborative team environment and strong connection to the community led him to take on a permanent role. He looks forward to contributing to the hospital’s continued growth while supporting sustainable, high-quality veterinary services for the community in the Timmins region.

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Khizar enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle, cooking, and exploring different cuisines.
